Here's some background info, the doe is almost 3 years old. I have tried several times to breed her (hand and pen breed) with several different bucks but she has not yet settled (at least I don't believe so). The people who I bought her from had said they had bought her because she was supposed to be bred but she had never kidded.
So I went to check all of my bred does for udders and I happened to know she had a bloody discharge (the kind does have for a few days after kidding). I checked the pen high and low and found no signs of any fetuses or anything IF she was bred. I never found any blood in the pen, just some on her tail.
Would too much exposure to a buck do that? Or could it be a urinary tract infection? I know urinary infections cause does to be temporarily sterile. If it's thought to be a urinary tract infection how much penicillan would she need?
I'd really like babies out of Karina.... She's an awesome little doe with awesome lines and shows soooo well! I'm heartbroken that I can't get her bred!

It could be several things actually Tara. The simplest is that maybe she didnt settle with the buck last time and is having a heavy heat cycle this time which sometimes does result in a bloody discharge look. She could also have cyst which could be what is preventing her from breeding to begin with. One of the cyst may have becomed injured and caused the discharge. There are other things it could be but honestly I am running on fumes right now and not thinking straight so I cant remember. Maybe you could post a pic for us tomorrow and we could help better

Now Katie, what would you do for a cyst? How treatable is it?
The discharge is really thick and bloody... It literally has the same look as a doe who just kidded, which is why I was thinking she aborted?
I'll get a picture tonight...

That could be Tara. I had a doe today that miscarried with 6 and she was only 2 weeks from having kids. She passed them tonight bless her heart. A cyst would have to be removed by a vet. It is highly unlikely that it is a cyst though

Yes Tara please keep us updated. Thank you Chrissy. I just really wish that she could have had them all and been in the "safe" zone herself. I would have been on cloud 9. But unfortunately God had other plans.

I'm so sorry for your losses Katie **hugs**
She was done bleeding after that day. I haven't been able to get her bred. It actually looks like there's something wrong with her chacha though. I'll get a picture tomorrow. Something doesn't look right about it...
Karina and Sugar Baby are two of my all time favorite girls and I haven't been able to get either bred! Frustrating!

Well Katie, at first I had issues catching her heats and she'd come into heat often, and now I can no longer detect her heat cycles at all.
The doe is very agressive towards others, she actually beat up a doe pretty badly and caused her babies to be stillborn. I haven't had her out with the herd for awhile but I believe that she does go after does in heat pretty frequently...
Would it be too late to do anything now?

I don't think I could afford another trip to the vet so is there anything you'd recomment trying?

okay, I'm going to pour my heart out on here, because no one else could possibly understand me. We lost Karina today. She's been fine other than the discharge the one day. My mom noticed she was a bit off this morning so first thing I do is check her when I go out to chores. she was gone. I'm not sure what happened but I feel horrible. I really am about to just sell them all and give up. Karina was a goat I came along way with and she was my one of my spoiled babies. I feel like a horrible goat mom.... I'm tempted to just sell them all.
I feel so guilty right now and I can't stop crying.

Tara I'm so sorry i really liked that doe as well, but that's farming sometimes these things just happen you had no way of knowing this would happen if it had been my doe i would have assumed that she had aborted as well. Even if you had gotten a vet to look at her they may not have been able to fix the problem or even diagnose the problem for sure. As Katey said it could have been anything really. I've seen your herd and barn girl you take wonderful care of those pygmies any got would be lucky to join your herd.

Tara- never give up honey. I am going to message you here in just a minute.
I am so sorry that I didnt log on for a few days everything got hectic here between work and school and chores.
I can tell you this sweety- goats dont just win in the ring by chance. And girl I have seen proof yours do! Show goats MUST be well taken care of yours is. Dont you dare go beating yourself up here. Did you starve that doe? - NO of course not! Did you neglect her needs- NO! Did you beat up on her? - No!
If I was a goat I would consider myself lucky to be in your field. I know I would be well taken care of **HUGS**

Thanks Katie **hugs** I'm trohinking I lost her to a fast set-in of entero. I say that because she did have the blood and alot of the symptoms fit. Along with the fact that I had another doe go down today with entero.
Luckily, my mom was able to get her out of the buck pen and seperate her off and feed her (I was at school). So after school I ran out and braved myself to give her a shot....Its been awhile, normally my mentors help with vaccinating my herd because I am not comfortable. She was fine before the shot. Up and walking around. Eating grain and hay and drinking water.
DEFINITELY vaccinanting ALL my goats with extra CD/T this weekend. NO WAY am I taking a risk with any others of them!
