packgoatforum.com is a good reference for beginners. i'm on there alot. northwest packgoat supplies has step by step instrictions along with many other pack equipment sites. i have enough gear for two goats that was donated to me by rex- an amazing person <3 and he runs northwest packgoat supplies. there is some stuff on other forums but mostly fiddling around and nothing super helpful for the most part. um.... i have trained my two does to pack but i got them when they were older so we werent really bonded and i think it made things much more difficult especially for me being a total packgoat newbie. so i'm hoping to keep a buckling or two to wether and train them to pack and harness. i'd love to use a goat to till the garden!!! <3 <3 <3 but i have no real harness equipment yet. summer i made a harness for my one doe out of my sisters discarded jeans... no matter how much you sew it is rather hopeless. so i kinda gave that up and am saving to buy a real harness. and i'm teaching my dog to pull. i made a halter for her out of heavy rope and she pulled an empty plastic sled over the winter. now i've changed it a little and put a folded up fleece blanket under it and she pulls a travois i made. i'm rather proud of it. she pulls it great but i can't take her out with it with the goats because they want to walk ON it while she pulls... being only about 50 pounds now she cant pull an almost 100 pound goat and an about 90 pound goat... so i will only be able to walk them seperately until i can sort out that problem. i've done like 96% of the goats training on the egde of town and we werent bonded so i've had to tie the goats together (rope tied to both their collars) and halter one with a lead. so only in the last week have i been able to start to not leash them. but one still wants to stop every other minute to eat and the other will follow wonderfully so i still tie them to each other. but now i can walk them through feilds and woods.
