So every once and a while you may all here me talk about my crazy goat Shirley and not quite understand what is up with this goat so i wish to tell you a little more about Shirley and her life here at LLC's. ;D
First of all we're not really sure if Shirley is very stupid or very smart.
I purchased Shirley with her sisters Rhonda and Muffin last summer Shirley herself cost me only 85 in the package with the other two(she had never done better then a 4th at the fair) nothing seemed wrong with Shirley right way she just seemed a little too friendly. I took her to the pet parade the fourth day i had her and she was very good marching up and down the streets with me.
Soon the trouble began her sister Rhonda got sick with worms then sore moth and finally she got coccidia and died
i noticed Muffin blended into the herd very quickly and didn't seem to miss Rhonda at all but Shirley started to leave the goat pen and spend more time with people not making any new goat friends only going home to sleep with muffin at night. I figured Rhonda was Shirley's twin and she was just trying to adjust to life without her. however after the first month of this I kinda figured this is how she really acts... all the time.
So i 've found many things out about Shirley she really doesn't have much of a objective with the exception of eating grain... really that's her only goal i life.
every morning when i go to feed the goats Shirley runs out the door straight across the farm to the garage where i keep the goat food to find like every morning that it is locked up... She then tails me till I'm done feeding the bucks hoping for a bucket of feed which she never gets... next she runs back across the farm and stands in our yard under one of the trees(everyday sun, rain, hail or snow) now over the winter she kept getting the runs and i could not figure out what she was eating to make herself sick. then i figured it out the reason after beging for feed she goes and stands under the same tree...she was eating the loose bird seed that fell out of the feeder ( we now only put BOSS in our feeder) the rest of the day she browses around the yard and doesn't move for you if she gets in your way not even for cars, dogs, tractors or lawn mowers. however she is so gentle that Skylar my three year-old cuz can lead her by her collar.
Stories about Shirley
1. my aunt once drove over her with her truck with out knowing it.(she was fine don't worry)
2. She gets called Aunt Shirley the goat because Skylar will yell at you for calling her Shirley.(my mom Skylar's Aunts names is Shirley.)
3. we had to lock Shirley in the barn over the winter because she still wanted to go out even thou the snow was well over her head.
4. she likes you to hold her in your lap when she sleeps .
5. she likes to run away across two hay fields and get in the Bakers yard.
6. lost her hair while i was at the fair last year and no one told me till i saw her .( she got paint dumped on her and it fell out)
7.She has no friends in the herd after Muffin died in Oct.(thou sometimes pride spends time with her.) she can almost always be found alone.
8. she like to sleep in the old chicken house which was turned into storage after my grandfather died. one of the walls fell in and is siting on a pile of old bicycles that's her favorite place to camp if we don't make her go to the barn.
